To help protect you from credit or debit card fraud, your credit union provides you with enhanced fraud protection. If your credit or debit card transaction appears to fall outside of your usual spending pattern, an alert is created. A fraud analyst or automated voice system will then contact you, using the contact numbers in our data system, to verify whether you authorized this transaction which does not fit your historical card spending behavior. Part of the verification will be to ask you to confirm the last 4 digits of your social security number on file. If we are not successful in contacting you, a decision will be made on your behalf to block future transactions until you can be reached for confirmation. It is extremely important that we have your most up to date phone numbers. This is part of our ongoing efforts to provide you with the best protection available for your AAFCU credit/debit cards. On your next visit to our office, please confirm that the numbers we have on file are correct so that we can reach you quickly. If you receive a call of this nature and you have any concerns at all, please don't hesitate to call and talk with us.Credit Unions have Federal Savings Insurance!
The money of virtually all credit union members is protected by federal insurance at their credit unions, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) pointed out today – insurance coverage that is similar to that provided to banks by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC). CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica said, “...It’s important for the millions of credit union members across the nation – with billions of dollars saved in their credit unions – to know their money is as safe and sound as any deposits in federally insured banks.” Virtually every credit union across the nation has federal deposit insurance. Just like FDIC insurance at banks, savings are insured to at least $250,000. The federal insurance safety net at credit unions is provided by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government Agency. Additionally, the credit union insurance (just like the FDIC) is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States. ‘In fact, no one with their savings at a federally insured credit union has ever lost a dime of their savings,” Mica added.
